Police have arrested a man and woman accused of abandoning a four-year-old girl in Wattegama after transporting her by three-wheeler. Investigations indicate the woman is the child's mother.
Authorities in the Wattegama area have taken two individuals into custody following allegations that they abandoned a young child in the district. The Hali Ela Police made the arrests on the morning of August 14, according to police statements.
Investigations conducted by officers revealed that the female suspect is the biological mother of the four-year-old girl, while the male suspect has been identified as her illicit partner. The child was reportedly transported to the location by three-wheeler before being left behind.
The arrested pair is scheduled to be transferred to the Wattegama Police Station, where further inquiries into the abandonment will be conducted.
