Sri Lanka's Court of Appeal will announce on November 27 whether it will permit a writ petition by former State Intelligence Service Director Suresh Sallay challenging his arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act related to Easter Sunday attack investigations.
The Court of Appeal bench, comprising President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando, concluded oral submissions on September 18 in the petition filed by former State Intelligence Service Director Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Suresh Sallay. The court set November 27, 2026, as the date to announce whether it will grant leave to proceed with the writ petition challenging Sallay's arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.
President's Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena, representing Sallay, presented reply submissions on Friday following extended oral arguments from both parties. The bench directed all parties to submit any further written submissions by October 20, 2026, ahead of the November ruling.
In addition to deciding whether to permit the petition to proceed, the court indicated it would issue a separate decision on November 27 regarding requests for interim relief filed in the case. The specific nature of the interim relief requests was not detailed in available reports.
