A Sri Lankan court has directed a comprehensive review of bank accounts belonging to alleged major drug trafficker Shiran Basik, who was recently extradited from the UAE and is currently detained for 90 days.
Authorities have launched an extensive financial investigation into Shiran Basik following his extradition from the United Arab Emirates and subsequent arrival in Sri Lanka on August 14. A court order has mandated that the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Central Bank conduct a thorough examination of all bank accounts connected to the suspect, based on information provided by investigating officers.
Parallel to the banking inquiry, the Illegal Assets Investigation Division is separately investigating Basik's wealth and property holdings. According to police statements, preliminary questioning has uncovered evidence that Basik owns five hotels located in the Marine Drive area of Colombo. The investigation aims to establish the origins and legitimacy of his assets.
Basik, who had reportedly fled Sri Lanka and sought refuge in Dubai, was apprehended by authorities in the UAE before being deported to Sri Lanka. He is currently being held under a 90-day detention order while multiple investigations into his alleged involvement in drug trafficking and related criminal activities proceed. The coordinated effort between different investigative divisions suggests authorities are taking a comprehensive approach to establishing the full scope of his alleged operations and illicitly acquired wealth.
