A spinner dolphin carcass was discovered on a beach in Mannar district on Thursday morning. Wildlife authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of death.
The body of a spinner dolphin was discovered washed ashore at Arippu Beach in Silavathurai, located in Mannar district, on the morning of July 31st, according to the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
Following the discovery, wildlife officials conducted an initial examination of the remains at the site. The department subsequently arranged for a comprehensive post-mortem examination to be performed by the Wildlife Veterinary Unit, which is based in Kilinochchi.
The investigation aims to establish the circumstances surrounding the dolphin's death. Such discoveries in Sri Lankan waters warrant official examination to determine whether natural causes, disease, or other factors contributed to the marine mammal's demise.
