Authorities in Nepal have confirmed that flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border has resulted in at least 162 deaths, according to statements from Nepali police. The casualties have been distributed across multiple districts, with 64 bodies recovered in the Chitwan district and a further 26 in Nawalparasi East.
The disaster has also impacted law enforcement operations, with 28 police officers among the hundreds of people still missing following the flooding. Search and rescue efforts continue in the affected areas as authorities attempt to locate those unaccounted for.
Chitwan, a district that attracts significant tourism due to its renowned jungle safari offerings, is among several municipalities that have been placed on high alert as flood waters continue to rise in the region. The combination of rising water levels and ongoing search operations has prompted heightened emergency responses across the affected border areas.
