COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Dengue Control Unit says that 69,951 dengue patients have been reported in the country so far this year.The National Dengue Control Unit reported that 14,572 dengue patients were recorded within the first 13 days of this month alone.The number of deaths due to dengue has also risen to 48.The National Dengue Control Unit noted that 175 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across the island have been identified as high-risk zones for dengue.Consequently, steps have been taken to implement a special dengue control program starting 16th of July, in 11 districts.Acting Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, said that this program will be carried out for a period of one week.He added that the hospital system is currently facing severe congestion due to the increased number of dengue patients being admitted.
