Sri Lankan diplomatic missions in Chennai, Bangkok, and Melbourne participated in National Integrity Week 2026 by conducting pledge-taking ceremonies, reaffirming their commitment to upholding ethical standards and anti-corruption measures across public service.
Sri Lankan diplomatic missions across multiple countries observed the commencement of National Integrity Week 2026 during the final week of July by conducting formal pledge ceremonies with their staff. The Deputy High Commission in Chennai, the Embassy and Permanent Mission in Bangkok, and the Consulate General in Melbourne all participated in the initiative, which runs from 27–31 July under the theme "A Culture of Integrity – A Clean Sri Lanka." These events were held in parallel with the main official ceremony organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism in Colombo.
During the pledge-taking ceremonies, diplomatic staff committed to prioritizing public interest over personal gain, acting with ethical standards even without external oversight, and upholding transparency and accountability in their work. The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to UNESCAP, E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, addressed staff in Bangkok, emphasizing that integrity is reflected in daily choices and that a culture of integrity develops through consistent honest actions becoming habitual and accountability becoming the norm.
The missions reaffirmed their collective dedication to eradicating corruption, bribery, nepotism, and inefficiency from their operations. Staff pledged to serve the public with equality, compassion, and without discrimination while upholding the rule of law and financial discipline. The Consulate General in Melbourne highlighted its commitment to delivering people-centric, efficient, and transparent consular services to Sri Lankan communities in Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania while maintaining the highest ethical standards.
