DFCC Bank has introduced multilingual automated banking services in eight languages at key locations including Bandaranaike International Airport and popular tourist destinations, aiming to improve accessibility for foreign visitors and local customers.

DFCC Bank has rolled out automated teller machines and cash recycler machines offering services in eight languages at select locations across Sri Lanka. The initiative, which began at Bandaranaike International Airport's arrivals area, has expanded to DFCC Bank branches in tourist destinations including Hiriketiya, Ella and Arugam Bay. The machines provide transactions in English, Sinhala, Tamil, French, Chinese, Russian, Hindi and German, with plans for wider deployment across the bank's nationwide network.

The multilingual service addresses a practical challenge for both international travellers and local customers. Visitors arriving in Sri Lanka can conduct banking transactions without navigating unfamiliar language interfaces, while Sri Lankan customers gain the option to bank in their preferred language. Users select their chosen language at the start of each transaction and follow on-screen instructions accordingly. While ATMs allow cash withdrawals only, the cash recycler machines enable both deposits and withdrawals.

The expansion aligns with Sri Lanka's tourism sector growth. According to the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the country received 2.36 million visitors in 2025 and an additional 1.15 million during the first half of 2026. DFCC Bank Chief Executive Officer Thimal Perera stated that the initiative represents a shift where technology adapts to customers rather than requiring customers to adapt to technology, removing barriers to independent transactions.

The bank has prioritised deployment at tourism destinations and arrival points where multilingual access can deliver the greatest practical benefit. The progressive rollout continues across the broader ATM and CRM network.
