A partnership between DIMO, the Sri Lanka Tennis Association, and the Sri Lanka Tennis Premier League has brought world-class floodlighting to four hard courts, including the national centre court, to enhance player development and enable evening competitions.
Sri Lanka's tennis infrastructure has received a significant upgrade through a collaborative project to install international-standard floodlighting systems. DIMO, working alongside the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) and the Sri Lanka Tennis Premier League (SLTPL), has undertaken the installation across four key hard courts at the national facility.
The new lighting system adheres to international federation guidelines and incorporates energy-efficient LED technology with zoned controls, allowing individual courts to be illuminated independently. According to DIMO, the design minimizes glare while providing uniform illumination, enabling players to follow high-speed play and overhead shots clearly. The system also supports broadcasting standards, addressing both player development and event hosting requirements.
Wijith Pushpawela, Executive Director at DIMO, stated that the initiative aims to extend training hours and prepare players for international competition. SLTA President Iqbal Bin Issack described the project as a turning point for Sri Lankan tennis, noting that extended playing hours would strengthen player development programmes and enhance the country's capacity to host competitions. The installation, testing, and commissioning phases are underway, with completion expected within weeks.
The project is scheduled to be formally inaugurated through a nighttime exhibition match on the newly equipped courts. DIMO has handled technical design, electrical distribution, lighting simulations, installation, and commissioning through its in-house engineering expertise, working with international principal brands to meet international performance standards.
