Retired public health specialist Dr. Harsha Suranga Fernando has been sworn in as the new Governor of the Central Province in a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday.
Dr. Harsha Suranga Fernando, a retired public health specialist, took the oath of office as Governor of the Central Province on Wednesday before President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat. The swearing-in ceremony marks the beginning of his tenure in the provincial administrative role.
Dr. Fernando brings extensive experience in public health to the position. He has worked as an immunization specialist with the World Health Organization across multiple countries, contributing to global health initiatives. Prior to his international work, he served as a community health official in the Kandy District, where he gained direct experience in regional health administration and public health management.
The appointment comes as part of the President's administration's efforts to fill key provincial leadership positions. The ceremony was confirmed by the President's Media Division, indicating the formal nature of the transition.
