A 21-year-old man arrested on drug charges has been identified as an accomplice in the August 12 shooting death of a woman in Middeniya. A second suspect was also arrested in connection with the case.
A 21-year-old resident of Middeniya, initially detained on drug-related charges, has been revealed to have played a role in the fatal shooting of a woman in the Middeniya Police Division. The suspect was first arrested on August 19 after police recovered crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as 'Ice', in his possession. He was held at Middeniya Police Station under a detention order pending further investigation.
During questioning, authorities discovered the suspect's alleged involvement in aiding and abetting the shooting that claimed a woman's life on August 12. The suspect was presented before the Walasmulla Magistrate's Court and remanded in custody until September 2 for continued investigation.
Police have since arrested a second suspect, a 24-year-old also from the Middeniya area, on similar charges of aiding and abetting the murder. This arrest was conducted by officers from the Tangalle Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau and the suspect was transferred to Middeniya Police. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death remain ongoing.
