Shiran Basik, a major drug trafficker wanted by multiple authorities, is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka following his arrest in Dubai along with two associates.
Shiran Basik, identified as a prominent figure in international drug trafficking, is set to be brought back to Sri Lanka tonight, according to a statement from Sri Lanka Police. The trafficker was arrested in Dubai by local security forces, along with two other underworld associates.
Basik had reportedly been residing in Dubai while maintaining a cover as a businessman. According to available reports, he maintains alleged connections to an Iranian drug trafficking network and is also wanted by United States authorities. His arrest in May marked a significant development in efforts to apprehend him, though official confirmation from Sri Lankan authorities took time to emerge following initial reports of his detention.
Police sources indicate that Basik is believed to be among five major traffickers involved in supplying narcotics to Sri Lanka. His extradition represents a coordinated law enforcement effort between Emirati and Sri Lankan authorities to address drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
