The Disaster Management Centre reports that prolonged dry weather has affected more than 88,000 people across six districts, with authorities distributing drinking water to nearly 87,000 individuals in affected areas.
Persistent dry weather conditions have impacted 88,068 people from 27,475 families spread across 28 Divisional Secretariat divisions in six districts, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC). The drought has prompted water distribution efforts to address immediate needs in the affected communities.
Water supplies are currently being provided to 86,368 people from 27,048 families across 27 of the affected divisions. Monaragala district faces the most severe impact, with 37,890 people from 11,751 families receiving distributed drinking water. The crisis has also significantly affected Batticaloa, where authorities are supplying water to 28,523 people from 9,547 families.
The remaining affected areas include Ampara, Badulla, Polonnaruwa, and Ratnapura. In Ampara, 8,847 people are receiving water assistance, while Badulla has 8,383 beneficiaries. The smaller-affected districts of Polonnaruwa and Ratnapura are receiving water supplies for 2,646 and 79 people respectively. The DMC continues to monitor the situation and coordinate relief efforts across all impacted regions.
