The Colombo High Court has filed indictments against former Minister Duminda Dissanayake and another woman in connection with a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle found at a Wellawatte apartment complex. Both accused have been released on bail.

Indictments were filed against former Minister Duminda Dissanayake and a co-accused woman at the Colombo High Court in connection with the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle. Following the filing of charges, the presiding judge ordered the release of both accused on bail.

According to available court records, the Attorney General filed the indictments on August 5. The judicial proceedings continued on September 9 and again on September 10, with bail granted on each occasion. The most recent bail order, issued by Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga, set each accused's release conditions at a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and two surety bails of Rs. 2 million each.

The case originates from the discovery of the firearm at the Havelock City apartment complex in Wellawatte in May 2025. Two women, aged 40 and 68, were initially arrested in connection with possession of the weapon before the investigation was transferred to the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID). Dissanayake was subsequently arrested by the TID on May 23, 2025. During initial court proceedings, the Attorney General's Department indicated insufficient evidence to proceed, leading to his release at that time. The case was later taken up again, culminating in the current indictments.
