Police have arrested two individuals following a raid on an unlicensed alcohol production facility operating near Karadiyana, seizing substantial quantities of illicit liquor and manufacturing equipment.
Authorities conducted a raid on an illegal liquor manufacturing and distribution centre located at Weras Ganga Park adjacent to the Karadiyana garbage dump, resulting in two arrests. The operation was initiated based on intelligence received by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau regarding unlicensed alcohol production in the area.
During the raid, police recovered 135 litres of finished illicit liquor stored across eight barrels, valued at approximately Rs. 1.5 million. Additionally, officers seized around 16,000 litres of fermented wash—the raw material used in alcohol production—along with a substantial quantity of manufacturing equipment.
The two suspects, identified as residents of Ratmalana, were taken into custody. According to police, the illegally produced liquor was being distributed across multiple locations, including Mount Lavinia, Moratuwa, and Piliyandala. The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau continues investigating the operation to determine the full scope of the distribution network and identify any additional individuals involved.
