The Sri Lankan Embassy in Kathmandu has warned nationals in Nepal to exercise caution following a flash flood that swept through Rasuwa District from Tibet via the Bhote Koshi River, causing damage to several settlements.
A sudden flash flood entering Nepal from the Tibetan plateau has prompted the Sri Lankan Embassy to issue a safety advisory for its nationals in the country. The deluge, which traveled through the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa District, has inflicted substantial damage on communities in the Timure and Syabrubesi regions while creating hazardous conditions downstream along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.
The Embassy has urged Sri Lankan citizens residing or traveling in affected districts—including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha, and Chitwan—to remain alert and take preventive measures. Nationals have been instructed to avoid areas near rivers, riverbanks, bridges, and low-lying zones, and to heed directives from local authorities and security personnel. Those in high-risk locations should move to elevated ground immediately if advised by officials.
Travelers are advised to verify road conditions before commencing journeys and are strictly cautioned against crossing flooded waterways or roadways. Sri Lankans planning to visit the affected districts have been asked to defer their travel plans until official confirmation that conditions are safe and the flood risk has diminished.
