Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Anil Jayantha Fernando has said that steps will be taken to provide subsidies to the public in the future in line with the decline in fuel prices in the global market. The Minister made this statement while participating in a press conference held at the Department of Information today (26). He further stated that fuel subsidy Rs. 57 billion has been provided so far for fuel and this subsidy is set to end this month. Accordingly, a decision will be taken on whether to provide subsidies again or not and will be announced later, the Minister said. He pointed out that he is not ready to put unnecessary pressure on the public in any way. The Minister said that due to the rapid increase in fuel prices due to the war situation in the Middle East, the government had to increase fuel prices slightly in the country. However, the increased fuel prices are decreasing again and the public can benefit by purchasing fuel at that price, the Minister pointed out. The Minister further stated that since the fuel currently in stock in the country and expected to arrive in the next two months is fuel ordered last month, the cost of fuel ordered in the future can be covered and its benefits can be provided to the people.
