Considering the decline in fuel prices in the global market, this relief will be provided to the public in the future, said Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha.
He made this statement while addressing a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information today (26). The Deputy Minister further said,
The government has so far provided a subsidy of Rs. 57 billion for fuel, and that subsidy will end this month.
A policy decision on whether to provide the subsidy again will be taken and announced later.
Due to the rapid increase in fuel prices due to the war situation in the Middle East, the government was forced to slightly increase fuel prices here as well compared to those prices.
The fuel required for the next two months was ordered at a higher price last month. The benefit of these lower prices can be provided to the public when new fuel purchase orders are made, he said.
