All new passenger cars and vans sold in the European Union will be required to include a range of advanced safety features from July 7, 2026, under new EU road safety rules. Announcing the move, the European Commission said the mandatory technologies are aimed at making roads safer by reducing crashes and protecting both vehicle occupants and vulnerable road users. The new requirements include: Advanced emergency braking systems capable of detecting pedestrians and cyclists. Advanced driver distraction warning systems. Improved forward visibility for drivers. New testing requirements for worn tyres. Expanded safety glass areas designed to better protect pedestrians in the event of a collision. The European Commission said the measures are part of its broader efforts to improve vehicle safety standards and reduce road fatalities across the EU. (Newswire)
