Aberdeen Holdings' spice subsidiary has invested in a dedicated organic processing facility in Colombo to strengthen Sri Lanka's organic spice export capabilities and meet growing international demand.
Expo Commodities Global, the spice division of Aberdeen Holdings, has established a new organic spice processing facility in Colombo as part of a strategic expansion of its operations in Sri Lanka. The investment aims to enhance the company's capacity to process and export organic spices while meeting international quality standards and responding to increased global demand for certified organic ingredients.
The facility is designed to handle multiple international organic certifications, including USDA NOP, EU Organic, JAS, and Bio Suisse standards. The operation incorporates quality verification at each stage from processing through final dispatch, with an emphasis on maintaining product traceability and consistency throughout the supply chain. Direct sourcing arrangements with farmer groups form a core component of the facility's supply model.
Beyond production capabilities, the investment is expected to generate employment opportunities in processing, quality assurance, and logistics within Sri Lanka. By processing spices locally before export, the facility enables greater value retention within the domestic supply chain while positioning Sri Lankan organic spices competitively in premium international markets. Expo Commodities Global currently operates across more than 12 origins worldwide and supplies customers in over 60 countries, with a portfolio including cinnamon, pepper, cloves, and nutmeg among other spice varieties.
