Sri Lanka's expressway network collected more than Rs. 124.5 million in toll revenue over two public holidays on August 26 and 27, with over 325,000 vehicles using the routes during the long weekend.

Sri Lanka's expressway system generated substantial toll revenue during the August 26-27 public holiday period, collecting more than Rs. 124.5 million across the network. The Road Development Authority reported that 325,316 vehicles traversed the expressways over the two-day period, with traffic distributed relatively evenly between the days. On August 26, approximately 163,763 vehicles used the network, producing Rs. 60.4 million in income, while the following day saw 161,553 vehicles generate Rs. 64.1 million.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Highways, the long weekend holiday prompted increased travel along the expressway network. Traffic was concentrated on major routes, with the Southern Expressway handling the highest volume. The Ministry reported that the Southern Expressway generated approximately Rs. 76.7 million in revenue, while the Colombo–Katunayake Expressway earned around Rs. 34.8 million and the Central Expressway collected approximately Rs. 12.9 million during this period.

The Road Development Authority identified the Southern Expressway (E01) and the Outer Circular Expressway (E02) as experiencing the most significant traffic volumes during the holiday weekend. The revenue figures underscore the importance of the expressway network for national transport infrastructure and toll collection during peak travel periods.
