The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory predicting substantial rainfall in several provinces and districts, along with strong winds across multiple areas of the island.

The Department of Meteorology has forecast fairly heavy rainfall across parts of Sri Lanka on February 2nd, with precipitation expected to be most pronounced in the western and central regions. Showers are anticipated throughout the day in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces, as well as in the Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle, and Matara districts.

The meteorological department expects rainfall concentrations of approximately 50 millimetres at certain locations within Sabaragamuwa province and in the districts of Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Kalutara, Galle, and Matara. Isolated showers or thundershowers may also develop in Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2:00 p.m., though these areas are expected to experience lighter conditions.

Meanwhile, strong winds ranging between 40 and 50 kilometres per hour are anticipated across the North-central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central, and North-western provinces, as well as in Trincomalee district. The remainder of the island is expected to remain largely dry throughout the day. The Department of Meteorology has advised the public to exercise caution and take appropriate preventive measures to mitigate potential damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may accompany thundershower activity.
