St. Peter's College and Royal College Colombo have secured their places in the quarter-finals of the Under-17 Division I cricket tournament following wins on Wednesday, with paceman Mickhaeel Faleel playing a starring role in St. Peter's victory.

Mickhaeel Faleel delivered a standout performance to guide St. Peter's College Bambalapitiya past Nalanda in the pre-quarter-final stage of the Under-17 Division I cricket tournament. The fast bowler claimed six wickets for 33 runs from 8.4 overs, dismantling Nalanda's batting lineup as the home team collapsed to 110 all out at Campbell Place.

Nalanda's innings unraveled dramatically after a promising start. Opener Gevin Sandes struck 28 runs from 17 deliveries before departing, triggering a collapse that saw the team slip from 33 for 1 to 62 for 8 within 14 overs. Only Movindu Indusara offered substantial resistance with 38 runs. In response, St. Peter's reached their target of 111 with six wickets down, with an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership between Renish Anthony and Minuka Wijerathna proving decisive.

Meanwhile, Royal College secured a commanding 76-run victory over St. Joseph's at Reid Avenue to complete the quarter-final qualification. Royal posted 201 runs through contributions from multiple batters, including Mudith Gunasekara's 35 and Mahiru Kodithuwakku's quick-fire 24 off 19 deliveries. In response, St. Joseph's never gained momentum while chasing 202, folding for 125 in 40.5 overs as Nithesh Jayasinghe and Dushen Udawela each took three wickets.

The quarter-final lineup now features St. Peter's facing Trinity, Royal meeting Isipatana, alongside matchups between St. Sebastian's and Wesley, and Dharmaraja against S. Thomas' Mount Lavinia.
