A 54-year-old man was fatally shot in Maligawatte today in what police suspect may be a retaliatory killing linked to organized crime figures operating from abroad.

A fatal shooting in the Maligawatte area has prompted police to investigate potential connections to organized crime networks. The incident occurred at approximately 1:20 p.m. near a building materials shop on Sri Sangharaja Mawatha, when two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire on the victim. The man was rushed to Colombo National Hospital with critical injuries but died following treatment.

According to police, the deceased was closely related to organized crime figure "Kanjipani Imran." Investigators have developed a working theory that the shooting was potentially orchestrated by another criminal figure known as "Kudu Anju," who is believed to be currently based in France. The incident may represent retaliation for the recent murder of someone associated with "Kudu Anju" in Ratmalana, police suggested.

The shooting was recorded on closed-circuit television cameras at a nearby location, providing authorities with visual documentation of the incident. Police have not yet made arrests in connection with the killing. Investigations remain ongoing as law enforcement attempts to establish the precise circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify the two individuals responsible for firing the fatal shots.
