Police have arrested a 48-year-old woman from Ratmalana in connection with a July 21 attempted murder in Mount Lavinia, where armed men threatened residents. The suspect is accused of facilitating the supply of an illegal firearm.

The Western Province South Crime Investigation Division has taken into custody a 48-year-old woman suspected of playing a key role in an attempted murder incident that occurred on July 21 in the Mount Lavinia Pansala Road area. According to police statements, two unidentified men armed with a firearm threatened residents during the incident and attempted to carry out a killing.

Investigators allege that the arrested woman, a resident of Ratmalana, acted as an intermediary in obtaining the firearm used during the attack. Police claim the weapon was supplied by an organized criminal currently based abroad and was channeled through the suspect. At the time of her arrest, authorities discovered 10.270 grams of ICE narcotics in her possession, along with Rs. 35,060 in cash believed to represent payment for her involvement in the crime.

Following her interrogation, police recovered several items connected to the incident, including the motorcycle used in the attack, clothing worn by the perpetrators on the day in question, and a mobile phone. A separate suspect identified as the motorcycle rider involved in the incident was apprehended on July 26 and continues to be held in remand custody as questioning progresses.

The female suspect is scheduled to be presented before the Magistrate's Court to seek a formal detention order, which will allow authorities to continue their investigation into the broader criminal network allegedly involved in the attempted murder.
