A fire completely destroyed a plastic goods shop located near a fuel station on the Matara–Galle main road this afternoon, with authorities investigating an electrical fault as the likely cause.
A plastic goods shop situated in front of a fuel station on the Matara–Galle main road was completely destroyed by fire on the afternoon of the 29th. The blaze broke out at the premises and spread rapidly, consuming the entire structure before emergency responders could contain it.
The Matara Fire Brigade worked alongside local police and area residents to bring the fire under control. According to police statements, no injuries or deaths were recorded as a result of the incident. Authorities are currently investigating the cause, with preliminary suspicion pointing toward an electrical malfunction as the source of the fire.
The incident raised concerns given the shop's proximity to a fuel station, though there were no reports of the fire spreading to adjacent properties or causing secondary incidents at the nearby facility.
