A fire broke out at the Embilipitiya Paper Mill on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:20 p.m. in a storage area designated for scrap materials that had been brought into the facility. The incident occurred within the mill's premises, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
Emergency responders mobilised quickly to contain the blaze. Firefighting teams from the paper mill itself coordinated with personnel from the Sri Lanka Army, Police, Embilipitiya Urban Council, and the Sevanagala Sugar Factory in a joint operation. Their efforts successfully brought the fire under control before it could extend to other sections of the facility.
