A 36-year-old fishing skipper was injured in a shooting incident near Mirissa Junction when two men on a motorcycle opened fire on him. Police have launched an investigation into the motive and identity of the suspects.

A fishing skipper sustained gunshot wounds in an armed attack near Mirissa Junction, according to Police Media Spokesman ASP F.U. Wutler. The 36-year-old victim was targeted by two assailants traveling on a motorcycle who fired at him during the incident.

The injured skipper was transported to Matara Hospital where he received medical treatment for his injuries. The extent of his wounds has not been disclosed by authorities.

Police have initiated investigations to identify the two suspects and establish the circumstances that led to the shooting. At this stage, the motive behind the attack remains unclear as officers continue their inquiries into the incident.
