Authorities have arrested five individuals following the discovery of a large cache of 'Ice' drug at the Port of Colombo, with an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 8,000 million.
Law enforcement officials have arrested five suspects in connection with a major drug seizure at the Port of Colombo. According to police statements, three of those detained are Pakistani nationals while two are Sri Lankan citizens. The arrested individuals, aged between 33 and 51 years, were apprehended in Colombo and are scheduled for court appearance.
The contraband was discovered inside a shipping container holding approximately 471 kilograms and 200 grams of methamphetamine, commonly known as 'Ice'. Police valued the seized narcotics at more than Rs. 8,000 million based on street prices. Investigators determined that the container had arrived in the country in June of the previous year, having been declared as containing towels intended for re-export to Pakistan.
According to police findings, the actual purpose of the shipment differed significantly from its declared contents. The investigation revealed that the drugs were planned to be transshipped from Sri Lanka onward to Cameroon. The case is being jointly handled by multiple enforcement agencies, including the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau, Sri Lanka Customs, and the Police Narcotics Bureau, with inquiries continuing into the full network involved in the smuggling operation.
