At least 5 people were killed in 4 separate road accidents involving motorcycles reported across Sri Lanka on Saturday (4), Police said. In Kopay, a 72-year-old cyclist died after being struck by a motorcycle on the Jaffna-Point Pedro Road while attempting to turn right. The motorcyclist was also injured and hospitalized. In Kekirawa, a 47-year-old pedestrian was killed after being hit by a motorcycle on the Kekirawa-Yakalla Road. The rider sustained injuries and was admitted to hospital. In Veyangoda, a 70-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a motorcycle on Bandaranaike Mawatha. Following the collision, the rider lost control and crashed into an oncoming car. The pedestrian succumbed to injuries in hospital, while the motorcyclist was also injured. Police arrested the car driver and launched an investigation. In Thanamalwila, both the motorcyclist and pillion rider were killed after their motorcycle collided head-on with a lorry on the Thanamalwila-Uda Walawe main road. The victims, aged 47 and 63, died after being admitted to hospital. The lorry driver has been arrested. Separately, in Hikkaduwa, a 72-year-old pedestrian died after being hit by a lorry while crossing the Galle-Colombo main road. The lorry driver was arrested.
