A foreign national died after being struck by a bus at a pedestrian crossing on York Street in Colombo's Fort area on Thursday. The bus driver has been taken into custody as police investigate the incident.
A pedestrian of foreign nationality was fatally struck by a bus on York Street within the Colombo-Fort Police Division on Thursday afternoon. According to police, the accident occurred at a pedestrian crossing as the victim attempted to cross the road. The bus was traveling in the direction of Pettah at the time of the collision.
Following the impact, the injured man was transported to Colombo National Hospital for emergency treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the facility. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased individual.
The bus driver involved in the incident has been apprehended by police and is currently in custody. The Fort Police Division is conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
