Mahil Senaratne, former chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation and brother of ex-Minister Rajitha Senaratne, has been arrested by anti-corruption authorities over allegations of improper procurement procedures.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) arrested Mahil Senaratne on Tuesday in connection with allegations surrounding fish sales outlet operations. According to the inquiry, proper procurement procedures were not followed in the establishment and maintenance of fish sales centres throughout the country.

Senaratne served as chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation between 2010 and 2012. He is the brother of Rajitha Senaratne, a former government minister. The specific details of the procurement violations and the scope of the investigation have not been disclosed by authorities.

The arrest represents part of ongoing efforts by CIABOC to investigate corruption and bribery allegations within state institutions. The case is likely to draw public attention given Senaratne's family connection to a prominent political figure.
