The Criminal Investigation Department has secured authorization to extend the detention of retired Major General Suresh Sallay for a further 90 days as part of ongoing inquiries into the Easter Sunday attacks, according to NewsWire. The former State Intelligence Service chief, who was arrested on February 25 at Peliyagoda, remains in CID custody.
The detention extension was approved under Section 9(1) of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act No. 48 of 1979, following an order from the Defence Ministry. This legal framework permits extended questioning in terrorism-related cases under specified conditions.
