A former organiser of the SLPP in Nawalapitiya along with local constituency representatives has switched allegiance to the Sarvajana Balaya alliance.
K.L.A. Gunasinghe, who previously held an organiser position with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna in Nawalapitiya, has joined the Sarvajana Balaya alliance alongside several other local political figures. The group formalised their decision following a meeting held in Nawalapitiya with former Member of Parliament Dilum Amunugama, who serves as the National Organiser of Sarvajana Balaya.
Amunugama used the occasion to criticise the current government's conduct and policies. He questioned the government's claims regarding opposition involvement in prison disturbances, suggesting that such assertions undermine the necessity for a functioning government. He also pointed to the recent gazetting of notification to extend the judicial term of judges, which was pursued despite objections from the Chief Prelates, as evidence of what he characterised as authoritarian governance.
According to Amunugama, the Sarvajana Balaya has achieved notable growth in voter support despite beginning from minimal recognition. He contrasted the movement's expansion with the declining electoral bases of other established political parties, claiming that Sarvajana Balaya has managed to build substantial support even as traditional parties have lost ground among voters.
