Tourism officials have inaugurated construction of a new information and service center near Arugam Bay bridge, marking progress on a long-pending project designed to enhance visitor services in the popular coastal destination.
The foundation stone for the 'Sunset View Park' Information and Service Center was laid on August 3rd near Arugam Bay bridge, under the direction of Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath. The facility is intended to serve as a unified hub offering comprehensive information and services for both domestic and international tourists visiting the Arugam Bay area.
According to Minister Herath, the project had faced delays despite being recognized as a necessary infrastructure for the region. He stated that the Ministry has now secured full financial backing for the initiative and pledged that political leadership and government officials remain committed to completing construction within the established timeline. The finished facility will be handed over to the local community and tourism sector upon completion.
The project's development involved collaboration between Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe and Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Wasantha Piyatissa. Officials have characterized the initiative as an important development in efforts to position Arugam Bay as an internationally competitive tourist destination.
