Police have apprehended four suspects in connection with a hand grenade attack on a residence in Rathmalana earlier this month, with preliminary findings suggesting links to organized crime.

Four men have been arrested by Mount Lavinia Police in connection with a hand grenade attack that occurred on August 5 at a residence on Gnanendra Road in Rathmalana. The suspects, aged 21, 26, 28, and 30, were detained in the Moratuwa and Rathmalana areas on August 8, according to police statements.

During the attack, two hand grenades were thrown at the two-storey house. One detonated upon impact, causing damage to window panes, while the second remained unexploded and was subsequently recovered by officers. No casualties or injuries were reported from the incident.

According to police investigations, the attack was allegedly orchestrated by an organized criminal based overseas. Authorities suspect that rivalry between organized criminal groups may have motivated the assault. The investigation remains ongoing under the direction of Mount Lavinia Police Station, with further details expected to emerge as the case develops.
