Police have arrested four suspects in relation to a residential burglary in Mount Lavinia that resulted in the theft of gold jewellery valued at over Rs. 14 million.
A coordinated police operation has led to the arrest of four individuals suspected of involvement in a high-value theft from a Mount Lavinia residence. The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau initiated their investigation on July 18, 2026, after receiving a complaint regarding the burglary.
According to police statements, two of the primary suspects were apprehended in the Dehiwala area on August 6. Subsequently, investigators located and arrested two additional suspects—one believed to have direct involvement in the theft and another accused of providing assistance to the perpetrators. Both of these individuals were found in the Hatton Pathana area.
The police recovery operation yielded a substantial portion of the stolen goods. Items returned to the Mount Lavinia Police include eight pairs of gold earrings, four gold pendants, a single gold bracelet, ten gold necklaces, two gold rings, and one additional piece. The suspects, ranging in age from 28 to 53 years old, are all residents of the Hatton Pathana locality.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the involvement of each suspect.
