Sri Lanka Railways has cancelled four train services today due to the unavailability of a power-set and a locomotive, according to the Railway Station Masters' Union.
Four train services have been taken out of operation due to equipment failures within Sri Lanka Railways. According to the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Union, the cancellations affect both passenger and freight operations across two major railway lines.
On the Kelani Valley Line, two passenger services have been cancelled. The 4.00 p.m. departure from Colombo Fort to Avissawella, scheduled for both today and tomorrow, is unavailable due to a missing power-set. Similarly, the 5.55 a.m. service from Avissawella to Colombo Fort has also been suspended for the same reason. Additionally, two freight train services operating on the Main Line have been cancelled today after a locomotive became unavailable for operations.
General Secretary of the Railway Station Masters' Union Kasun Chamara Jayasekara highlighted that such disruptions are becoming increasingly frequent. The union has expressed concern about the pattern of service cancellations and technical failures affecting the Railway Department, noting that these interruptions are placing significant strain on regular commuters who rely on rail transport for their daily travel needs.
