The Court of Appeal has delayed further consideration of intervening petitions in the case of former State Intelligence Service Director Major General Suresh Sallay, who remains detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The Court of Appeal commenced proceedings today to examine multiple intervening petitions seeking permission for third parties to make submissions regarding the case of Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, former Director of the State Intelligence Service. Sallay has challenged his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
During the hearing, legal representatives from the National Patriotic Movement and the Patriotic People's Movement (Deshapremi Janatha Vyaparaya) presented arguments before the court. These organizations had filed the intervening petitions to participate in the proceedings.
The court determined to postpone further consideration of these intervening petitions until August 6. Sallay was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department on February 25 in connection with allegations related to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings. He continues to remain in detention under a court order.
