Galle Gallants defeated Colombo Kaps by 13 runs in the Lanka Premier League, climbing to the top of the points table with a controlled bowling display in Pallekele.
Galle Gallants claimed the summit position on the Lanka Premier League standings after defeating Colombo Kaps by 13 runs in the 19th match of the tournament held at Pallekele on Saturday. The victory came after Galle successfully defended a total of 201 runs across their 20 overs, restricting their opponents to 188.
Galle's batting lineup was anchored by Charith Asalanka, who scored 58 runs, while Sahan Arachchige contributed 43. Sam Harper and Dinura Kalupahana added 28 and 20 respectively, with Dasun Shanaka remaining unbeaten on 21. Colombo's chase fell short despite contributions from Ben McDermott and Malsha Tharupathi, each scoring 38 and 36 runs respectively.
The difference proved decisive in the bowling department, where Galle's attack proved more effective. Mohammed Nawaz took three wickets for 24 runs, supported by Akif Javed and Eshan Malinga, who claimed two wickets apiece for 42 and 43 runs respectively. Colombo's bowling had earlier restricted Galle through Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Wanuja Sahan, but ultimately fell short in executing their chase.
With this win, Galle Gallants can only lose their top-of-the-table position if Jaffna Kings defeat Dambulla Sixers in the final league-stage match scheduled for Sunday, making the outcome of that fixture crucial to the playoff seedings.
