The Attorney General has formally indicted former Minister Duminda Dissanayake in connection with a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle discovered at a Colombo luxury apartment complex, according to NewsFirst.

Formal charges have been brought against former Minister Duminda Dissanayake by the Attorney General's office in relation to the discovery of a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle at Havelock City, an upscale residential complex in Colombo. The indictments have been filed before the Colombo High Court as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident.

Dissanayake was initially arrested on May 23 of the previous year and remanded in custody. However, on July 29 that year, Mount Lavinia Magistrate Chathurika de Silva ordered his release on bail, determining at that time that insufficient direct or circumstantial evidence existed to link him to the offense. Despite this earlier ruling, the case proceeded when the Attorney General subsequently advised authorities that enough evidence had been gathered to identify him as a suspect.

Following the Attorney General's assessment, Mount Lavinia Magistrate Kanchana N. Silva issued court notices on June 19 of this year requiring Dissanayake to appear before court on July 7. The Attorney General's office also filed indictments against Aigul Sheragzina, who is identified as another suspect connected to the same incident.
