The government has initiated an investigation after Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam made statements regarding a purported threat to Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya's safety.
Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala addressed Parliament regarding controversial remarks made by SLPP General Secretary Attorney-at-Law Sagara Kariyawasam concerning Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya. According to the Minister, Kariyawasam's statement referenced an alleged possibility of harm coming to the IGP in public, which the government considers a grave matter.
In response to the remarks, the Central Crimes Investigation Bureau has commenced a formal investigation into the statement, the Minister disclosed while addressing lawmakers.
