Sri Lanka's Department of Examinations has announced a comprehensive ban on educational activities and promotional materials connected to the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, effective from midnight on August 5. The restrictions cover tuition classes, lectures, seminars, and workshops that focus on exam preparation during this period.
The prohibition extends beyond classroom instruction to include the production and circulation of study materials. The department has explicitly banned the printing and distribution of question papers containing model examination questions designed to prepare students for the scholarship exam. Additionally, all promotional materials featuring similar questions—whether in poster, banner, leaflet, electronic, or print formats—are forbidden. Possession of such materials is also prohibited under the new regulations.
The Grade 5 Scholarship Examination is scheduled to take place on August 9 across 2,723 examination centres nationwide. The measures appear designed to ensure a level playing field for all candidates in the final days before the high-stakes national assessment.
