A foreign-made hand grenade was found in a canal behind the home of SJB Member of Parliament Dr. Kavinda Jayawardhana in Weligampitiya, Ja-Ela, prompting a police investigation.

A foreign-made hand grenade was discovered in the Delgaha Ara Canal located behind the residence of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Member of Parliament Dr. Kavinda Jayawardhana in Weligampitiya, Ja-Ela on Wednesday morning. Workers employed by the Ja-Ela Urban Council came across the explosive device while conducting routine canal cleaning operations at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The workers immediately notified the Kandana Police of their discovery, leading officers to arrive at the scene to initiate preliminary investigations. Following their assessment, the Police Special Task Force Bomb Disposal Squad was dispatched to safely retrieve and remove the grenade from the location.

The Kandana Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the device. Authorities have not yet released details about how the grenade came to be in the canal or any potential connection to the MP's residence.
