New details have been released in the investigation into the alleged bribery of Rs. 1,200 lakhs from notorious drug lord 'Harak Gatta'. Investigations have revealed that former Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha Speaker Lasantha Wickramasekera alias Mitigama Lasa, who was shot dead a few months ago, acted as an intermediary in the bribery case. Former Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa's son, Attorney-at-Law Rakitha Rajapaksa, and Samagi Jana Balasinghe's Horana constituency organizer, Sarith Abeysinghe, are currently remanded on charges of allegedly receiving the bribe money from Harak Gatta. 'Midigama Lasa' was shot dead by a member of an opposition underworld group inside the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha premises on October 22 last year (2025). Investigations have revealed that he was a very influential member of Harakatta's underworld group. Mithigama Lasa himself acted as an intermediary for the payment of Rs. 120 million to a group including Rakhita Rajapaksa from Harakatta's side. A woman claiming to be Harakatta's wife has alleged that Rakhita Rajapaksa and others received this money on the pretext of preventing Harakatta's assassination, transferring him from the Poosa High Security Prison to a regular prison and releasing him from the charges against him. It has now been reported that Mithigama Lasa also traveled with the group that went to Dubai to discuss the bribery issue. This transaction took place in 2023. It is noteworthy that Mithigama Lasa had not been elected as the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha chairman at that time.
