Sri Lanka's Meteorology Department has issued a heat advisory for multiple regions, warning of potentially dangerous heat index levels during daytime hours.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a heat advisory affecting the Eastern Province and five districts across the country. The warning covers Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Vavuniya, Polonnaruwa, and Monaragala, where residents can expect elevated heat conditions during daytime hours.

According to the Department, the heat index in these regions is expected to reach caution levels. The heat index measures the apparent temperature felt by the human body, taking into account both actual air temperature and humidity levels, and can be significantly higher than the thermometer reading.

Authorities have advised residents in the affected areas to take appropriate measures to protect themselves from heat-related health risks. The public is urged to maintain adequate hydration throughout the day and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours when conditions are most severe.
