The Department of Meteorology has issued multiple warm weather alerts affecting the Eastern Province alongside the districts of Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Vavuniya, Polonnaruwa and Monaragala. According to successive advisories issued between July 26 and July 28, the heat index—a measure reflecting the temperature as experienced by the human body—is expected to reach "Caution" level in certain areas during daytime hours.

The alerts indicate an ongoing pattern of elevated heat conditions across these regions over several consecutive days. The Department of Meteorology has advised residents to implement protective measures to reduce exposure to prolonged heat and minimise the adverse effects of the current weather conditions.

Authorities recommend that members of the public take appropriate precautions during peak daytime hours when heat index levels are expected to be most severe. The advisories underscore the importance of staying hydrated and limiting outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day.
