A case against former parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra and other female defendants stemming from a 2022 International Women's Day event has been postponed to November 2 after police completed their investigation.

A legal matter involving former Parliamentarian Hirunika Premachandra and several other female defendants has been scheduled for further hearing on November 2. The case centres on allegations that the defendants obstructed roads and interfered with police duties during an International Women's Day event held in 2022.

The matter was presented before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama on October 17. According to Ada Derana, Cinnamon Gardens Police confirmed to the court that their investigation into the incident had concluded and the investigation file had been submitted to the Attorney General's office for further directions.

The Magistrate ordered the case to proceed on the scheduled date and instructed police to update the court on developments related to the matter at that time. The adjournment suggests the case is now moving to the next phase, pending guidance from the Attorney General's office on how to proceed.
