COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) says there is no evidence of ill-treatment of inmates transferred to other prisons following the clash at the Negombo Prison.Commissioner of the HRCSL Attorney-at-Law Nimal Punchihewa said the conclusion is based on observations made during inspections conducted so far.Officials from the Commission visited Boossa, Angunakolapelessa, and Welikada prisons, where inmates transferred from Negombo are being held.The Commission also met with inmates receiving treatment in hospital to discuss their concerns.The HRCSL said inspections of other prisons housing transferred inmates will continue in the coming days.
