The Disaster Management Centre has received a donation of emergency equipment from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, aimed at strengthening the country's disaster response capabilities.
A formal handover ceremony was conducted at Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centre in Colombo to transfer humanitarian and search-and-rescue equipment donated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The donation was initiated following a request from the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles and comes as part of broader efforts to enhance the nation's disaster preparedness framework.
The equipment package includes generators, emergency relief kits, chainsaws, VHF communication systems, and hydraulic cutting tools, according to officials overseeing the transfer. These resources are intended to support the DMC's capacity to conduct search-and-rescue operations during natural disasters such as floods and landslides, while also expediting the delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected populations.
The donation initiative appears linked to recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah, which impacted Sri Lanka in November 2025. Sri Lanka's Consul General in Los Angeles, Achini Perera, visited the Church's headquarters to express the nation's gratitude, presenting a formal letter of appreciation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Matthew Ball, the Church's Director of International and Public Affairs. The gesture was recognized as a meaningful contribution to strengthening Sri Lanka's emergency response infrastructure.
